Comparing September 2011 to September 2010, multi-family new housing starts (apartments and townhomes) were up 15%  while single family deatched homes fell 12%.  And check out what is happing elsewhere in BC... - compared to September 2010;  Victoria was up 5.6% 
And due to weak multi-family activity,
                           Abbotsford new home contruction fell 33% 
                           Kelowna  was down 20%
                           Prince George was down 50% 


The robust multi family sector in the lower mainland, however, is making things difficult for sellers of used units.
